Brooke's Blog

Greetings Tutors,

The weather is warming up outside and we are nearing the end of the semester.  We have received and assigned a record number of student requests (381 requests assigned, 406 requests made)!  Our staff has grown to include 83 tutors!  I want you all to take a moment and realize what a great job you all have been doing!  Thank you for your hard work and keep it up for the last push to finals.

Remember that tutoring is required through the week before finals week.  If you have tests and projects during that week, you may reschedule tutoring sessions with students, but not cancel sessions altogether.  Tutoring during finals week is optional.  Check with your student(s) if you are able to tutor during that week to see if they are interested as well.

If you have not done so already, please respond to my emails about your plans to return in the summer or fall and whether or not you are graduating this spring.  We need this information as we prepare to recruit new tutors for Fall 2009.  The sooner I get your reply the better!

Take care,
Brooke

Observations and Raises

At the end of each semester, Brooke reviews our tutoring records to award raises to tutors who have met the requirements.  That time is again approaching.  The week after finals will be the time when this is completed.  If you are planning on returning this summer or fall and want to earn your raise, check with Brooke to see what is left to do.  For many of you, all it requires is an observation.  Let's get those set up before finals week gets here!  To set up an observation, simply email or call Brooke with the time and day of your sessions (check with your students to make sure it is ok for Brooke to observe, too).  So far this semester, only 12 tutors have been observed.  There are many more of you who need one!

Paperwork Reminders

Tutors, you've been doing a good job with paperwork this semester overall.  Please make sure that you enter the NDIL number and the Counselor's name on the Tutoring Report.  These two items are being left off more often than is appreciated and it really does speed up the process of getting paid if they are filled in correctly!  Any questions?  Ask Brooke or Kristi.

Also, please remember that when you turn in Miscellaneous Reports, you have to sign it!  Many tutors are turning them in unsigned and have to come back into the office to finalize the paperwork before getting paid.

Student Cancellations

A theme the office has been hearing from tutors is that students are canceling more often as we approach the end of the semester.  Remember that if a student cancels your session within eight hours of the session, it is still considered a "no-show" and you need to turn in the tutoring report to reflect that.  You don't need to have the student signature on the tutoring report in the case of a no-show, just your signature is required.

Student Employee Appreciation Day

Tutors - you should have received an e-vite invitation from CDE inviting you to attend our annual open house in celebration of our student employees.  In case you did not, the open house is being held on Friday April 17th from 1-5 PM in the conference room in 18 Phillips Hall.  We hope you can drop by at some point during the afternoon!  We'll have punch, cake, and possibly some other refreshments for you along with certificates of appreciation for you to pick up.

We hope to see you there!
