The Director of the Center for Diversity & Enrichment, Ms. Nancy Humbles has been recognized again for her work on behalf of students, enhancing diversity on campus, and leadership of CDE. On May 4, Nancy was honored by the Culture and Resource Centers with one of six, Professional and Scientific Staff Advocacy Awards. Also, the Center for Diversity & Enrichment, under her leadership, was one of four organizations recognized with the Outstanding Support And Outreach Award for contributions to the advancement and enrichment of the Cultural Centers. The Iowa Edge, one of the three other programs recognized was a collaborative project of CDE. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority celebrated its 90th year in April 2009 and honored Ms. Humbles for her long and continuous support of the sorority and students in general. The UI fraternity and sorority community also awarded Nancy the Staff Member of the Year Award for her highly regarded work with students. All of us are proud of the distinctions afforded Nancy and CDE under her leadership.
Several students active with CDE were honored and recognized for the quality of their work and outstanding contributions to the campus cultural and resource centers. They include Sunny Bounyalath, Lilly Chen, Dominac Dagen, Linh Ha, Christopher Moore, Cody Morrison, Trinh Nguyen, Wisdom Nwafor, Brandon Parker, and Miranda Welch. Wanakee Carr (3rd. from left) was the recipient of the Undergraduate Student Award for her outstanding contributions and leadership role with BSU and her ongoing support of the Afro American Cultural Center including bringing and introducing new students to the center.
Familiar faces to CDE, Rohit Vuppuluri (R) and Roberto Paniagua (L) were honored as Diversity Leadership Awards Recipients. These two distinguished students have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made outstanding contributions that have impacted the culture and resource centers as well as advanced and enhanced diversity on campus. Each recipient received a $300 award.
